Hon. O. Peter Sherwood (Ret.) Joins FedArb’s Panel
June 15th, 2022 – FedArb is delighted to announce that Hon. O. Peter Sherwood (Ret.) has joined its nationwide ADR panel as a mediator, arbitrator and special master. Based in New York, Judge Sherwood specializes in resolving commercial, construction, civil rights, employment, insurance, professional malpractice and securities matters.
Justice Sherwood retired from the bench in 2021 where he served as a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, New York County, assigned to the eight-member Commercial Division. He presided over thousands of cases, including matters involving the Empire State Building initial public offering, real estate mortgage-backed securities actions, major real estate litigations, banking disputes, insurance controversies, restrictive covenant and non-compete cases; litigations concerning ownership or control of multi-billion-dollar businesses, corporate governance fights, state security laws, alleged violations of net neutrality principles and much more. He currently serves as senior counsel at a commercial law boutique.Prior to his appointment to the bench, Justice Sherwood was a partner in a large national law firm where he handled complex commercial matters. He also served as Corporation Counsel of the City of New York, where he was the City’s chief legal officer and oversaw a staff of 700 lawyers. Previously, he was Assistant Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., where he litigated precedent-setting civil rights matters. He also served as Solicitor General of the State of New York overseeing appellate litigation on behalf of the State and State institutions.

Justice Sherwood graduated from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law.
